WENexus Workshop on Energy Transition
On 28 and 29 April, WENexus, together with the Embassy of Denmark in Portugal and Ăguas do Ribatejo, E.M., S.A., organised an event dedicated to the Energy Transition in Portugalâs Water SectorÂ
The event brought together technicians, researchers, academics, consultants and managers to share knowledge, analyse practical case studies and present energy efficiency solutions for the sector.
28 April: Capacity-building workshop, featuring successful case studies from Portugal and Denmark, as well as strategies and best practices for a more efficient energy transition.
29 April: Technical visits to the Torres Novas WWTP and the Quinta do Melo Plant, providing direct contact with the solutions implemented on the ground.

WENexus Workshop on Energy Transition in the Water Sector
WENexus, in collaboration with the Embassy of Denmark in Portugal and Ăguas do Ribatejo, is organising a two-day workshop dedicated to supporting the energy transition of water utilities in Portugal.
The event will bring together sector stakeholders to exchange knowledge, present practical solutions, and showcase experiences from Denmark, including technical approaches to energy efficiency and collective self-consumption implementation.
The workshop will take place on 28â29 April 2026 in Torres Novas, including expert presentations and technical site visits to water infrastructure facilities.
Ăguas do Douro e Paiva joins WENexus
Cooperation agreement supports decarbonisation and improved energy performance of water supply infrastructure
Ăguas do Douro e Paiva (AdDP) has formalised a cooperation agreement with WENexus to develop new projects focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy production within its water supply system.
The collaboration contributes to AdDPâs strategy to accelerate the decarbonisation of operations and optimise the energy performance of infrastructure. The agreement is part of the European Commission-funded project WENexus â Delivering the Water-Energy Nexus for Energy Efficiency, which provides free technical, financial, and legal support to water utilities in Portugal.
Planned activities include assessing the installation of turbines in hydraulic structures with microgeneration potential, as well as evaluating collective self-consumption schemes in technically and economically viable infrastructures.
Ăguas do Interior Norte (AdIN) Joins the WENexus Project
AdIN becomes the 11th water utility to receive free technical consultancy for energy production solutions
Ăguas do Interior Norte (AdIN) is the latest water utility to join the WENexus project, benefiting from free technical consultancy to support the development of energy production solutions within its water supply infrastructure.
We are delighted to welcome AdIN to the initiative, bringing the total number of supported utilities to 11. Through WENexus, these entities are advancing concrete steps toward the energy transition in Portugalâs water sector, strengthening sustainability, resilience, and operational efficiency.
WENexus at ENEG 2025
WENexus participated in ENEG 2025 from 18 to 20 November, sharing practical solutions for a faster energy transition in the water sector.
WENexus was present at ENEG 2025, where our team showcased practical ways for water utilities to accelerate their energy transition.
We also shared project insights on stage:
đž Ana LuĂsa GuimarĂŁes (GĂłmez-Acebo & Pombo) presented the public procurement framework for energy-efficiency projects.
đž Pedro Pascoal (Infraquinta, E.M.) highlighted the solution developed with WENexus that generates energy through a hydraulic turbine and existing solar production.
S317 contributes to â+ Europeâ debate on the energy transition
S317 in debate organized by Expresso on the future of sustainability in Europe
Marina represented S317 Consulting in a debate organized by Expresso under the â+ Europeâ program, which gathered Portuguese innovators to discuss the countryâs role in building a more sustainable and innovative Europe.
She highlighted the WENexus and Raise projects, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable innovation and the energy transition.
WENexus is going to ENEG 2025
WENexus will participate with a stand at ENEG 2025 â National Meeting of Water and Sanitation Utilities, taking place from 18 to 21 November 2025 at Europarque, Santa Maria da Feira.
ENEG is bringing together utilities, experts, and companies to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, and discuss the future of water governance.
The 2025 edition, under the theme âWater and Governance: Bridges to the Future,â will feature debates, technical sessions, awards, and exhibitions highlighting the latest equipment, products, and services in the sector.

WENEXUS in ENERH2O
WENexus took part in the 3rd edition of ENERH2O â Energy and Water Innovation & Technology, held on 24 and 25 September 2025 in Exponor Porto.
The event, a leading Business-to-Business platform dedicated to innovation in water and energy, brought together companies, researchers, and institutions to showcase integrated solutions for sustainable resource management.
WENexus was present with a stand and featured in the event presentations, where the team introduced the projectâs objectives and results in driving energy efficiency and supporting water utilities across Portugal.
WENexus featured in Ambiente Magazine
On 27th of June, 2025, WENexus is featured in Ambiente Magazine, in a recent article by Filipe Morais Vasconcelos (Managing Partner at S317 Consulting).
The piece highlights the progress of the WENexus initiative, especially in the water sector, where already measurable energy savings are being achieved.
According to the article, since its launch in September 2023, the WENexus project has contributed to an annual energy saving exceeding 4 GWh, while avoiding emissions of approximately 500 tonnes of COâ.
21st ENaSB
WENexus will be present at the 21st ENaSB (National Basic Sanitation Meeting), organized jointly by APESB, MunicĂpio de Braga and AGERE – Empresa de Ăguas, Efluentes e ResĂduos de Braga, EM.
With the theme âTechnological Transformation for Sustainabilityâ, the event will take place from November 20th to 23rd at the Altice Forum in Braga. Visit us at the exhibition which will be held on November 21st and 22nd.

One year after the beginning of the WENexus project, we take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all the entities that have collaborated with us, as well as to everyone who has shown interest and willingness to learn about WENexus.

It is with great satisfaction and enthusiasm that WENexus announces that the Embassy of Denmark is a new member of the projectâs Community of Practice (CoP), joining AEPSA, Ăguas do Algarve (AdP Group), BCSD Portugal, LIS-Water, LNEC, PPA and APDA.
The CoP aims to engage Water and Energy sector entities, to support the project consortium, acting as an Advisory Board in the areas of sharing technical knowledge, publicising the project and contributing to the sustainability and impact of WENexus initiatives.
The Path of Innovation
WENexus will be present at the event “The Path of Innovation” organized by Ăguas do Tejo AtlĂąntico.
The event will take place on October 3rd in Lisbon at the AlcĂąntara Water Factory. Visit us at the exhibition.
National Water Supply Seminar 2024
The WENexus Project will participate at the next National Water Supply Seminar (SENAG 2024), which will take place on October 2nd and 3rd in Tomar, at the Hotel TemplĂĄrios.

The CoP aims to engage Water and Energy sector entities, to support the project consortium, acting as an Advisory Board in the areas of sharing technical knowledge, publicising the project and contributing to the sustainability and impact of WENexus initiatives.
Community of Practice (CoP)
It is with great satisfaction and enthusiasm that WENexus announces the formal creation of the project’s Community of Practice (CoP).
The CoP aims to engage Water and Energy sector entities, to support the project consortium in dissemination, sharing technical knowledge and participation in events.
The first CoP meeting took place on 28th May and was attended by all the entities that have so far been formally integrated into this community: AEPSA, BCSD Portugal, LIS-Water, LNEC, PPA, and Ăguas do Algarve.
The WENexus consortium, composed by the companies S317 Consulting, ENGIDRO Engineering Solutions, and SĂ©rvulo & Associados, would like to thank all the CoP entities and hopes that other entities will be able to join this community during the project’s development.
ENEG 2023
The WENexus Project participated in the National Meeting of Water and Sanitation Management Entities (ENEG 2023).
The event took place from 27th to 30th November at the Gondomar Multiusos.Â

EU Events 2023
The WENexus Project has been invited to participate to the 2023 Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum and the 2023 CINEA Contractors Meeting for Project Development Assistance.
The event took place on 25th and 26th October in Brussels.
